Don’t you just love it when you wake up to news that puts a smile on your face? Something like that happened to us at the Diljit Dosanjh concert last weekend, and when we say us, we’re speaking for the almost three billion brothers from other mothers and sisters from other misters who’ve been separated by line but joined together through the threads of culture.
We’re talking about the beautiful moment that unfolded last Saturday when famous Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh was performing in London. The singer brings across a very genuine, frank, and cheerful vibe, whether it be in his screen personas, songs, or even his interactions with Alexa. If we weren’t already fans of this cool yet authentic Punjabi, we certainly are now with his act of respect that’s not tethered to any nationality or boundary.
A special shoutout to Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, whose candid fangirl moment allowed millions of us to savour some of the love and optimism that we all need.
In the clips and videos that have gone viral on social media, Hania, attending the concert as a fan, can be seen smiling and gesturing with her hands as the GOAT convinces her to come on stage.
What followed was the stuff of dreams for millions of us on both sides of the border who wanted an end to politics and differences. It’s not normal for a star to share the limelight on the stage. So, for Dosanjh to call Hania and then applaud her as a “superstar” was generous. But then, to follow it up by serenading her with Lover while she clapped left us all swooning over this Punjabi munda who’s showing world leaders how it’s done.
As the singer wrapped up his performance, he handed the microphone to Hania, who expressed her gratitude warmly. “Thank you so much for having us and keeping us entertained,” Hania said, bowing and applauding the Indian singer. When she returned the mic to Dosanjh, he responded, “I am your fan. I truly admire your work. You are amazing. Thanks a lot for being here.”
A note shared with the post read, “I won’t recover from this. What an unforgettable night. It felt magical—the love, respect, and genuine spirit. It was all heart. Diljit Dosanjh, sir, you have only one heart, but you’ve won it countless times. Pure love. The entire team is just incredible. It’s been an honor meeting so many wonderful souls. Truly a night to remember. Thank you for all your warmth and affection.”
It seems Dosanjh has been on a mission to enable cross-border meetups via his Dil-Luminati tour. Pakistani music star Atif Aslam recently crossed paths with British pop sensation Ed Sheeran in Birmingham, when the latter was performing with Diljit Dosanjh.
Aslam posted a photo of their meeting on Instagram, captioning it, “What a night!”
Many followers expressed their hopes for a collaboration between the two artists, with one saying, “Just imagining the records you two would break if you collaborated!!”
This is the power of music and what true art can do. To bridge differences and bring people closer.Earlier in Manchester, Dosanjh invited a fan onto the stage during his performance and gifted her a signed pair of sneakers. Engaging further with the fan, who was thrilled, Dosanjh asked about her hometown, addressing an audience of thousands. The fan, choosing not to share her name, mentioned that she was from Pakistan.
Upon hearing this, the Punjabi star asked the audience to give her a round of applause, encouraging a spirit of harmony between the neighboring nations. “To me, India and Pakistan are the same. There’s love for all within Punjabi hearts,” he said as the crowd roared in support. Dosanjh emphasized the importance of unity and affection between the two nations, whose political ties remain tense. He remarked that the borders dividing countries are “the creation of our politicians.”
Are you listening, politicians?
